The U.S. Forest Service and Grand Targhee ski area are preparing an Environmental Impact Statement governing the expansion of the resort. The plan includes major improvements within existing permit area boundaries, and a request to expand the ski area’s permit boundary into Mono Trees and South Bowl. These areas are not only important wildlife habitat, but also are traditionally used by backcountry skiers and snowboarders. Moreover, these areas immediately border the wild winter backcountry resource of Teton Canyon and Jedediah Smith Wilderness.
